Former Texas Tech quarterback Jett Duffey is joining Central Michigan as a graduate transfer, he wrote in a text to ESPN on Sunday.
Duffey played in 10 games last season, the final eight as the starter after an injury to Alan Bowman. He passed for 2,840 yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions. He completed 65.1 percent of his passes and averaged 284.0 yards per game.
He also ran for 212 yards and a touchdown for the Red Raiders (4-8).
Duffey appeared in eight games, with three starts, in 2018, leading the team in rushing with 369 yards.
Duffey appeared headed to Tulane earlier this month, but he was denied admission because of academics, according to nola.com.
Duffey has one season of eligibility at Central Michigan, where he will be looking to replace now-departed Tennessee transfer Quinten Dormady, who helped the Chippewas bounce back from a 1-11 record in 2018.
Central Michigan (8-6) won the Mid-American Conference West division title in its first year under former Florida head coach Jim McElwain. The Chippewas lost 48-11 to San Diego State in the New Mexico Bowl.
