NEW DELHI, India - The Indian state of Tripura has decided to form a special investigation team (SIT) of local police to look into the alleged infiltration from Bangladesh.
On Friday and Saturday, 27 "Bangladesh nationals" were apprehended in the Rajnagar and Ramnagar areas on the outskirts of Agartala, the state capital in northeastern India.
Twenty Bangladeshi nationals were reportedly detained in West Tripura's Sidhai area recently.
A large number of "illegal" Bangladeshi nationals have recently been arrested, and cases have been registered with various police stations in Tripura.
According to reports, Tripura police have decided to transfer important cases to the SIT to facilitate and ensure a concentrated, focused, and end-to-end investigation.
The SIT will collaborate with other security agencies in Tripura and at the national level to identify organized networks involved in such anti-national activities.
According to an official, infiltration has been reported from unfenced areas bordering the West, Sepahijala, Unakoti, and North districts.
Tripura and Bangladesh share an 856-kilometer international border. So far, approximately 85% of the Indo-Bangla border has been fenced, with work continuing to complete the fencing.
