No. 8 seed Emma Raducanu of Great Britain advanced to the second round of the Korea Open with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Romania's Jaqueline Cristian on Wednesday in Seoul.
In a match that was rained out on Tuesday, Raducanu overcame 3-1 deficits in both sets to finish the victory in just over two hours. Cristian had seven double faults and converted only three of her 15 break chances.
Up next for Raducanu, who took a last-minute wild card into the WTA 500 tournament, is Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic.
In other first-round matches, No. 6 Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over South Korea's Dayeon Back and the Netherlands' Suzan Lamens eliminated Germany's Tatjana Maria 6-4, 6-1. No. 5 Diana Shnaider of Russia outlasted Caty McNally 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Romania's Sorana Cirstea beat Russia's Anastasia Zakharova 6-3, 6-1.
No. 3 seed Clara Tauson of Denmark reached the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win against Germany's Eva Lys. She will face Australia's Maya Joint, a 6-3, 6-1 winner against No. 7 seed Sofia Kenin.
