Andorran qualifier Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva advanced to her third career WTA Tour quarterfinal by outlasting eighth-seeded Magda Linette of Poland 5-7, 7-6 (5), 7-5 on Wednesday in the Merida (Mexico) Open Akron.
The match lasted 3 hours, 20 minutes, tied for the fourth longest on the tour this year. Jimenez Kasintseva closed the victory by breaking serve in the final game, converting her third match.
Fourth-seeded Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic advanced out of the second round when defending champion Emiliana Arango of Colombia retired due to a shoulder injury. Arango won the first set 6-2, then lost the second 6-1 and trailed 2-0 in the third when she halted the match.
Great Britain's Katie Boulter and Spain's Cristina Bucsa also snagged quarterfinal berths.

China's Yue Yuan, the event's 2024 champion, rolled past Hungary's Dalma Galfi 6-3, 6-2 in the second round at Austin, Texas.
Yuan never faced a break point in the match while converting three of her eight break opportunities.
The United States' Taylor Townsend downed the Czech Republic's Nikola Bartunkova 6-1, 6-4, and Switzerland's Rebeka Masarova got past the United States' Whitney Osuigwe 7-6 (2), 6-3 in a matchup of qualifiers.
Russia's Oksana Selekhmeteva eliminated Kazakhstan's Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2, 7-5.
