San Diego FC look to maintain their perfect start to the MLS season when they visit FC Dallas on Saturday.
One of four clubs with a 3-0-0 record, San Diego FC is atop the league table due to the goal differential tiebreaker. San Diego has scored eight times and has yet to concede a goal during MLS play.
San Diego has achieved its success amidst a busy schedule, as the team is also competing in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Saturday's match with Dallas is sandwiched between the two legs of San Diego's knockout round tie with Mexican side Toluca, with the second leg coming on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday's first leg saw San Diego FC manage a 3-2 home victory, despite losing two players (Marcus Ingvartsen and Manu Duah) to red cards.
'It was a challenge that we embraced ... and then really showed that resolve. It was almost a good thing that happened to us because we got to show that side of us,' striker Lewis Morgan said.
Ingvartsen and Anders Dreyer have each scored a pair of goals in MLS play to lead San Diego.
FC Dallas are 1-1-1 with 4 points, and have yet to score since their season-opening 3-2 victory over Toronto FC. The Toros recorded 26 shots over their last two matches, though only seven were on target.
Defender Sebastien Ibeagha told the FC Dallas Agenda podcast that a positive from last Saturday's 1-0 away loss to Los Angeles FC was that 'we showed that we are able to have our own tactics and implement them the way we want to.
'Whatever our tactic is (against San Diego), we need to be extremely disciplined because they're a very, very dangerous team,' Ibeagha said. 'And if we're late to press or late on arrival to cut off passing, they will find that pass lane and they've shown that they punish teams.'
Seven of FC Dallas' first nine matches are at home, giving the club an early opportunity to improve on its home form. Only eight teams had fewer home points last season than Dallas, as the Toros recorded a modest 22 points from a 6-8-3 record on its own field.
San Diego won both encounters in 2025, outscoring Dallas 8-2.
