Janni Thomsen and Aisha Solorzano each scored early first-half goals to propel the Utah Royals to a 2-0 victory over Bay FC in Sandy, Utah, on Saturday night.
For Solorzano, the goal was her first in the NWSL and the first by a Guatemalan player in league history.
Utah (5-11-6, 21 points) scored multiple goals for the fourth time in its last five matches, winning in each instance. The Royals also extended their unbeaten streak to seven (4-0-3).
Mia Justis picked up the clean sheet, the second in three games for Utah and the fifth of the season for the club.
Bay FC (4-11-7, 19 points) is winless in 11 straight matches (0-7-4) and saw a two-game unbeaten streak snapped after conceding goals twice in the first 20 minutes.
Thomsen scored in the ninth minute to put Utah on the board. She latched onto a cross from Paige Monaghan and kept her forward momentum long enough to blast the ball home inside the far post.
The Royals extended their lead to 2-0 in the 18th minute when Solorzano found the net after dribbling through traffic and threading the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz.
Utah edged Bay FC in overall shots (13-12) and shots on goal (5-4).
